Mascot Redesign
St. Mark Lutheran School was founded in 1949 and currently educates students from 6 Weeks - 8th Grade. They have used a wide variety of cougar mascots through the years, but eventually, it needed a facelift. The challenge here was balancing the desire for an intimidating look without creating something too menacing for the younger students.
PHASE 1
I began by searching the web for a photo of a cougar with just the right look. I couldn’t find exactly what I wanted, so I compiled a few photos to create my own. I printed the image very lightly and began to draw on top, stylizing the image along the way.
PHASE 2
I scanned the initial half drawing into the computer, redrew the image in Illustrator and mirrored it to make a complete face. I then adjusted the lines until I was satisfied with the final image.
